Hi! I'm Gina
I finally took the plunge and started a blog! I have been DIY-ing since I was 10 years old. I've always (ask my family) collected, kept and recycled everything I could get my hands on!I would say I was born with a passion to "build things" and make something out of nothing and I have always loved antique furniture! I began refinishing furniture when I was 18 and haven't stopped since.....which means I have collected, kept, and sold A LOT! I enjoy doing things myself, partly because I'm too cheap to spend the money on new, but mainly because I enjoy the confidence booster of being able to turn something boring into something amazing! I figured it was about time that I shared my ideas, my tutorials, my mistakes (so you can learn from mine instead of your own) and my successes - to inspire YOU to begin your DIY adventures!
I have been married for over 27 years and am the mother of two extraordinary young men! My oldest son is a police officer and recently got married to my "partner in crime DIY-er" who I love as if she were my own daughter! My youngest son (Cole) was killed in a crash at the age of 17 when another driver failed to yield on October 21, 2014. The death of my son has been a horrible, tragic journey for my whole family, but with God, we are making it. At Cole's funeral we learned all about Cole's legacy. Kids even gave testimonials that it was Cole who gave them the HOPE to live, when they wanted to give up. We knew, as a family, we had a new mission....continue his passion.
So,I am also the director of Cole's Hope Foundation (a non-profit in honor and loving memory of Cole, to continue his passion of reaching out to others in need!) I am a full time high school administrator and between work and Cole's Hope, I manage 5 email accounts, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, two websites, two blogs, outreach programs and my mini-farm!
We live on 10 acres with 3 Nigerian Dwarf goats, 21 chickens, 1 cat and 3 giant dogs (aka miniature horses)! We have a 145lb Rott, Harley (Cole's dog), a 135lb Great Pyrenees, Samson, and a nearly 200lb Saint Bernard, Sarge! I cannot begin to tell you the MESS that Sarge makes with his slobber and 200 pounds of fur.....
So, with all of that, I STILL find time to do what brings me comfort and provides therapeutic relief....DIY! If I can do it, SO CAN YOU!
